Raptor - Call of the Shadows - OCS/AGA/RTG unofficial port
A downloadable game
*DOES NOT WORK WITH A STEAM VERSION OF THE GAME NEEDS TO BE ORG. MS-DOS VERSION 1.2* - FOR CONTROLS USE SETUP.INI to set up
---------------------------------------------------
*Nothing of the original game was changed/requires a beefy Amiga ( Vampire/PiStorm-class title. The DOS original wanted a 486!)
# Raptor: Call of the Shadows - Amiga - PLAY INSTRUCTIONS
How to install and play the Amiga port of Raptor on real hardware.
RTG---------------------------------------------
UPDATE1 (correction): currently user "Raybeez" has a playable version check it out here:
https://www.ppa.pl/forum/strefa-gier/49154/raptor-call-of-the-shadows-8211-amiga
UPDATE2: now we have perfect 23.3 fps on a Pistorm! (RTG version)
UPDATE3: perfect originally intended 24 fps on V4 Vampire! (RTG version)
UPDATE4: RTG game should be playable with just copying required GLB files
Sound files are 8-bit already converted
UPDATE5: Game files updated please download new files!
AGA---------------------------------------------
UPDATE6: AGA artifacts and graphics glitching almost all repaired (some artifacts in the menu cause of c2p).. sounds are hit and miss (fits 2 MB chip / 8 MB fast with room to spare works better on V4 then Pistormed A1200)
UPDATE7:
bare 14MHz 020 is genuinely too slow for this engine, mixer is asm, the c2p is asm, no SDL at all, no AHI =>because its a chunky-rendered 256-colour game at 24fps:
68020 8MB fast will run it around 2fps (no function can help here sadly no "Toaster" edition of the game)
68030 8MB fast will run it around 10-12 fps ( FMODE=3 (64-bit fetch)) => halves the DMA slots the display steals 10 fps ( c2pstage=1 (staged burst writes))
(i've used all the tricks that exist in the book)
68040 8MB fast will run it around 23.3 fps (full fps)
4MB will *work* but some of the wav (music) files will not get loaded so 8MB's still recommended!
AGA Version still not there yet (next stop is downscaled music ridden bogged down 68020 without chunky pixels HW version AGA that will still need some fast ram) !
Known issues of AGA version :
-Keyboard not working when you first arrive in the menu (click with a mouse anywhere it will unlock the keyboard)
UPDATE8: Raptor AGA 020 edition (full planar ape**** mode)+ fast ram (now im thinking 68030 full FPS possible!) Intro and animations in game menu i dont consider worthy for porting but for completeness sake i'll do it when i finish with this.
(Some screenshots for glorious 128 colors!)

*wrong function for bullets... XD
UPDATE9: Raptor 020 is a no-go sadly. 68030(stock)/fast 8MB w music, will be available after some further testing (can be tried on 020 but 10-12fps is not playable)
UPDATE10: Full planar Raptor AGA version should be playable just fine on an stock 68030 (on 68020 it might not be) 8MB's of fast still needed, navigate through the menu by mouse and keyboard/game by default is played with Joypad. Some hiccups you can expect are when lvl is loaded at the start .. thats chip ram filling with tiles this was a compromise and other's were made. Game is still nicest in its RTG version
UPDATE11: Raptor_020_AGA_experimental is available for download test on your classic accelerators (8MB of fast still needed) it stretches the AGA chipset to its limits some aspects of the game graphically are nerfed but nothing was touched in the gameplay!
UPDATE11,1; Raptor_020_AGA_experimental / Music fix and few other ones too, tested config is 68020 14mhz cycle exact/no go on 14mhz/ needs at least 30+mhz fast 020 or 030, music should be fixed ..still testing /uploaded
UPDATE12: Game is now available on the experimental OCS/ECS 6-bitplanes Build w music, needs minimum 1MB of chip ~ 6MB+ of fast /2MB of chip is recommended strange things could happen later in-game. This would actually target faster 020 accelerator could work 30+ mhz IF performance is slow you can turn of the music and keep SFX sounds by editing setup.ini file like this :
[Music] CardType=0 ; 0 = none, 2 = OPL, 6 = streamed WAV ; to enable put "6" instead of "0"
[SoundFX] CardType=5 ; unaffected
similar could work on stock AGA enabling better performance haven't tested it.
RTG/AGA----------------------------------
(keyboard/mouse/joystick SETUP.INI=> Control=0/1/2)
Requirements Vampire/PiStorm (NOT TESTED on A4000!)
RTG Game uses :
~16 MB Fast RAM (game heap ~4.8 MB + one music track up to ~1.1 MB + SFX)
- Audio: SDL/AHI audio (the game opens 11025 Hz stereo)
- Video: RTG; AGA or ECS/OCS chipset via the SDL driver;
- Storage: hard drive / CF card with the files below (~18 MB total)
!Files to copy (all in one folder, e.g. Raptor:)!
RTG =>raptor.amiga the game executable
You will need to supply from the original game: (Needs to be sourced from MS-DOS 1.2 version of the game (try archive.org or ExoDOS pack) => i couldn't include those and i won't because its copyrighted!
REQUIRED (The port needs the 1994 DOS v1.2 GLB files=> known good source "ExoDOS". The Steam "2015 Edition" data does not work yet - sorry - steam version uses additional GLB files which add nothing to the game problem is first bytes dont agree with what they should and its different(alot of work)., i could make it work but it will take time, too many versions of this game so far (i own the Steam 2015 edition of the game btw, unclear if Steam 94 version will work you'd have to test it for yourselves=> maybe someone can test and let me know)
FILE0000.GLB
FILE0001.GLB
FILE0002.GLB
FILE0003.GLB
FILE0004.GLB
---------------------------------------------------------
SETUP.INI configuration (controls, sound, video)
That's all. Run "raptor.amiga" from that folder (the game reads the GLBs, WAVs and
SETUP.INI from its current directory; RAPTOR.LOG is written there too).
*Controls
| Action | Key |
|---------------------|------------------------|
| Move | Arrow keys |
| **Fire (shoot)** | **Space** |
| **Special weapon** | **Alt** |
| **Change weapon** | **Ctrl** |
| Mega fire | Right Shift |
Configured in SETUP.INI [Keyboard] => whole set of scancodes for keyboard.
*SETUP.INI reference
[Music] Volume=85 CardType=6 <- 6 = WAV music (required for music)
[SoundFX] Volume=85 CardType=5 <- 5 = Sound Blaster (digital SFX)
[Video] fullscreen=1
- Music CardType=6 streams the WAV files (near-zero CPU).
- Music CardType=2 = Adlib OPL3 synth (works, but too slow on real 68k - not recommended!).
- Boss battles and the Apogee jingle have no WAV tracks - they are silent by design.
* If there's a problem send me a log file it will be generated in the game folder
- No music: make sure the .wav files are in the same folder and SETUP.INI
[Music] CardType=6. Log should show `WAV: mainmenu.wav playing (loop=1)`.
- No SFX: [SoundFX] CardType=5 and Volume > 0.

RTG - Verified working on a real Amiga running CaffeineOS - PiSTORM , V4 Firebird - Coffin, AmikitXE, Apollo OS ,AmigaOS3+
UPDATE: added joystick and mouse support! Game is fiddly with keyboard, mouse and joystick plugged in i recommend using keyboard for navigating menus
I consider this DONE i've given it all i got and without further testing or time i guess we'll find out bugs as we go about....
If you like what i do buy me a coffee, cheers!

Should I run 040 or 030 on 060 no FPU?
yopu should be able to run 040
no luck, black screen and music playing, fps counter and that is it :( A1200, TF1260 LC60 CPU.
i'll check whats wrong in the meantime have you tried 030 version ?
yes same thing. tried 40 and 30
are you using MS-DOS ver1.2 of the game?
In a Shell type:"CPU NODATACACHE" ,=> turn off the data cache, then start the game, game might work slower but we'll see if you get a picture and if you can tell we what fps counters say if its 0.00 then its something else. All builds use soft-float -m68020-60 so the missing fpu doesnt matter. Also if you can tell me which 68060.library you use and where it came from, whether SetPatch runs, whether MMU tools such as MuLibs are active, and your Kickstart version. Since i dont have the HW troubleshoot is kinda hard, cheers!
I've tested ECS version on a A500 2mb chip, tf536 accelerator 68030@50mhz and 64mb fast.It runs really great! Only things noticed are explosion of ships sounds cut in half or less. I've tried disabling music in setup.ini but that didn't help. Also when firing secondary weapon the whole screen gets white and after explosion it becomes a black square. Game continues to run and gets normal when the black square is passed.
Thanks finally someone tested, thats EHB for you and its virtually non different from AGA version. I've had problems with bandwidth of the custom chips AGA in particular 1.6MB/s is not enough for all the stuff that happens on the screen in raptor so some things i've nerfed, explosion were one of these things but yeah if played on a faster CPU (cpu time is 6~8 slower than custom chips here but if faster cpu is used then thats not the case anymore...anyways ,strangely less problems for OCS port (6-bitplanes) much less bandwidth needed, only thing thats chunky in these ports are now shield bar/score bar/game menu everything else is planar. Rn this wasnt my focus i've focused more on the performance side of things and if it would even be possible without changing gameplay. For everything else that's why testing is needed and that requires time. I will look into it, and try to reproduce it for sure, thnx for reporting it!
i've implemented some fixes please test
Before going on vacation, I had a great time making the icons for this game.
Looks awesome i've made some icons but they aren't as cool
Nice!
Looking forward to test it!
awesome please report any bugs
